To Live Through September With a CHD

As a child, I always called September “hell month”.I called it this because I like other CHDer’s grew up with learning disabilities. What does this have to do with September and the name I chose?Well it is when school began again and it was scary to have to deal with a new teacher/s and explain that you have a learning problem, and give them notes from your cardiologist on the days you were absent. These were fears that ran through my mind at the beginning of the year.
As years went on and everyone knew me, and 2 or 3 or 4 surgeries later, you get over this because you realize any month can be “hell” not just September. You become acutely aware that at any moment that shoe could drop and eventually it will.I also began to look at it objectively.Realizing that should the shoe drop, it is not a foreign experience, and I would conquer through just like all the times prior.Tough if the teacher had to make an accommodation for me because I was absent due to a cardiology appointment. What was th…

I wonder if anyone is really truely happy all the time? I'm happy part of the time.  My life is Not At All where I thought it would be at this stage in my life.  I did not think, I'd still be living at home a choice I made to get out of a bad situation 2 years ago.  I hadn't planned on being so sick which would've brought me home anyway.  I could think about all this and end it all but where would that get us? We already are like a million dollar jigsaw puzzle with a missing piece in the middle. Sort of like a tray of fresh tray of brownies, with the middle one missing, his favorite! LOL!!

But really what would that do? I'd never be able to get try to accomplish anything. I'm willing to learn and I feel that, that will be more life fulfilling.

"Kicking Ass and Taking Names"

I put quotes around "Kicking Ass and Taking Names" because it is something a great friend of mine always says. I am not taking other people's bull anymore. That is it for Mrs. Nice Girl and taking empty promises. So if you do that to me, expect that you are not going to be part of my positive life style.

I have learned a lot about people and friendships while I was in the hospital. I had time to think about friends and family. Friends are the family that you choose for yourself. Nevertheless, when those members start to treat you lousy, you are not obligated to keep them. Do not keep things that bring you down, or make you feel bad about yourself! Stay positive and light and you will be happier.

Family is blood and you may disagree or even hate them, but you stick by them because they are your family. They unlike toxic 'friends' will be there no matter what. When your friends are not there for you, you know they are not true friends, and perhaps it is time to just…
